Finally, after having bought and read the last of the books I most coveted from the Haikasoru lineup last year, I have now made a ranking of the books I’ve read! Please note that since these books were bought over the years, I have forgotten details from when I read them first. And foolishly I did not even write down notes that could have helped me make better comments about most of the books. So my impressions are from memory. For example, I don’t really remember much about Slum Online so my conclusion is that it must not have made that much of an impact on me. Also take note I haven’t also done reviews on the science because I just wanted to know what happens. For a discussion of the science (or the unscientific) you’ll have to read other reviews for that. These are just my feelings about the books.
Happy New Year everyone! 😀
It was a good thing I prepared the list in advance months ago. At least I won’t be late with this post.
Sword Art Online got me thinking about year-end rankings this early. And it’s only September!!
After seeing SAO episode 11, I thought that Kirito and Asuna were really cute together. I haven’t been this engrossed in a pairing since, well, Alto-hime x Sheryl in Macross Frontier. And that was 4 years ago. Wow, it’s been that long.
So aside from having both of them as fave characters in the year-end favorites, I thought about having 2 new categories:
The 1st category, favorite episode, would probably be hard to fill as I don’t really pay attention to episode numbers.
The 2nd category, favorite couple, is not that hard but would still take some time. It would make me go over the other series again if there were any couples that I liked. Although it might be made easier if more pairings stood out more.
The trivia news today is that the voice behind Moon River, Andy Williams, has died. I never really thought much about that song. But after Honey & Clover, aside from being identified as an oldies song, it would remind me of a certain
stalker’s guy’s ringtone. Funny how something so American would remind me of something Japanese. The power of globalization hahaha.
Meanwhile, my backlog is still formidable:
Tasogare Otome x Amnesia
Lupin III Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna
Persona 4 The Animation
Somehow I just find excuses not to watch. Maybe it’s just me feeling like watching some episodes becoming a chore. Grrr. I hope I finish at least one more show this weekend.
Happy New Year everyone!
This post is very late because, well, I had a awful start to my Christmas vacation–caught a fever and have been feeling sluggish ever since. Haven’t done much and the result is delay in the things I wanted to do. Adding to the delay was my purchase of a new monitor that led to rewatches and viewings galore…
Anyway, I have got to say that 2011’s crop was better as a whole than 2010’s. The top 5 contenders each have the quality to be considered the best show of the year 2011 for me. To illustrate the close fight, the five categories that I used to compare the shows (namely Characters/Entertainment Value/Story-Plot-Ending/Music/Animation) were divided among 4 of the top 6 shows. The 2 shows that didn’t get a first place ranking had 2 second-place rankings each.
My viewing has picked up a bit over 2010’s 14 shows. Maybe because as I said earlier, the quality of the shows for 2011 was actually better than 2010’s. Am I watching more because of this? Hehehe. For 2011 I’m supposed to be ranking 19 shows, but Fate/Zero, Last Exile – Ginyoku no Fam, and Chihayafuru are still far from finished. So I have decided to bump these 3 to 2012, saving me a few moments of deliberation with the 2011 ranking. Hunter x Hunter is also unfinished, and I doubt if I really can complete it. With these unfinished shows the ranking process would’ve been tougher. 🙂
I have also decided to exclude movies except for Break Blade. If I did not, well, Sayonara no Tsubasa would have been this list’s best anime–blowing away the competition hahaha…
2010 will be over in a few days, so it’s time for that year-end exercise: the year-end rankings of the shows that I watched. I’m quite early from my usual schedule. Whew! Now what else to do on New Year’s Eve? 😀
I finally got to follow-up on the first post. Yey! I am so ashamed it took me so long. But it’s funny what noise pollution can do to one’s mind. So in order to keep myself from losing my sanity, I finally finished my slice of life list.
This is what I have been referring to in my New Year post. I will rank the shows I’ve watched for each genre/grouping. I am not yet sure about the complete list of genres/groupings that I will tackle, because I doubt if there is enough material for most of them. But the major ones are slice of life, comedy, shounen, and of course, mecha. But today I will tackle yuri/shoujo-ai. (Warning: There might be some spoilers, but just a few.)
