What can I say? It was a boring year for new anime. Not much stood out for me, except for Chihayafuru 2 and Zetsuen no Tempest. So this year, I’m not writing the year-end usual stuff like the “My Top Anime for 2013” post.
Hurry up Friday! I want my next episode of Chihayafuru! 😀
While agonizing over the week-long wait for the next Chihayafuru fix (usually the subs come out Saturday), I have been alternating between rewatches of episodes from the 1st and 2nd (current) season. Not to mention rewatches of the latest episodes:
- Episode 14 – rewatched 6 times
- Episode 15 – rewatched 5 times.
One Random Curiousity writer had the perfect phrase for the show: exquisite torture. I don’t remember being this gaga for the show the first time. When the 2nd season started I wasn’t that really hot about seeing the next episode. One reason may be that my obsession then was Zetsuen no Tempest. Now it’s like I can never be satisfied with watching a Chihayafuru episode only once. ^_^;
My favorite moments from the 2 latest episodes:
- Ep 14 – Kana-chan blurting out ‘Pizusawa’ instead of ‘Mizusawa’–it was really cute; Tajiri asking Wakamiya why she’s thin now and what dieting she did; Megumu taking the Chihayafuru card
- Ep 15 – Makoto thinking about Rion copying his hairstyle; Kana-chan and her question about Monk Saigyo–another cute moment; Queen Wakamiya changing her clothes (were those really bloomers??); and lastly the reading of the order of the players.
Despite how good Chihayafuru 2 is I think I have to watch something else. Currently I’m also watching both the live-action adaptations of Xxxholic and Itazura na Kiss. I had been rewatching episodes of Xxxholic until Chihayafuru fever went out of control. Maybe I should get started on rewatching Itazura na Kiss anime so that I don’t get Chihayafuru rewatch overload. 🙂
Anyway lately I have felt that the weekends fly by so fast nowadays, hence the title. Lately I have had a lot of activities planned on the weekends and before I know it the 2 days of rest are over. Maybe it’s the summer heat agitating me to do something. 😉
Now excuse me as I go pick another Chihayafuru episode to rewatch. Ja!
Amidst the pressure at work, I am drawn to
blogging rambling again. What a turn-around!
It seems that this early part of the year has been more about rewatches than new anime. Of the currently airing anime, only Chihayafuru, Space Brothers, and Zetsuen no Tempest have been able to really capture my interest. No wonder I’ve been on a rewatching spree lately.
So for the past two days I have been rewatching choice episodes from the 1st season of Chihayafuru. I’ve already forgotten parts of it–at the Queen match I thought Yuumin (Yamamoto Yumi) had won. My memory of that match’s outcome was wrong! So even with the reigning Queen’s handicap (the fact that she became fat it was the biggest surprise of all), she still had enough skill/stamina to defeat Yuumin. That’s how good she was.
The other anime that I have been rewatching recently is Aria. I started off with Aria The Animation. Now I’m currently stuck in the first few episodes of Aria The Natural. This reflects the fact I don’t like The Natural that much. But I don’t want to start with Origination just yet–I dread the part where Alicia retires. Just thinking about it makes my eyes cloudy with tears. ^_^;
I’ve also been on and off with my rewatch of Glass Mask, I’ve stopped in the middle. I also rewatched Thermae Romae and Hatarakiman. On the live-action side I’ve rewatched Nodame Cantabile (yeah all of it), and the first few episodes of Zettai Kareshi and Orange Days. I also rewatched the first few episodes of Yondemasu Yo! Azazel-san. And the series was both revolting and funny as I remembered it.
Aside from all the rewatches, I’m trying to restart my Nihongo studies again. It’s been years since I took a JLPT exam, and my neglect has caused me to forget a lot of what I had learned back then. Of course the basics are still there, but it will take some time to relearn the kanji I’ve forgotten. Wish me luck.
In other news, it seems that there will be a new Banner of the Stars novel. Unfortunately I cannot read the source material even if I wanted to (if I hadn’t stopped my Nihongo studies who knows). But I hope they make another anime.
Vampire Knight is also ending, though I stopped caring about that manga a long time ago. But I’m still interested in how it ends.
I guess that ends this week’s ramblings. Till next, ja!
Ha! Top 2012 anime post is still not up. 😛
So here’s the progress on the winter anime:
- Maoyuu Maou Yuusha – So far I’m liking it. But it remains to be seen if I will lose interest along the way.
- Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun – What was this all about again? I forgot why but I decided to drop this. ^_^;
- Amnesia – Still undecided as episodes 2 and 3 remain unwatched.
- Tamako Market – I. don’t. get. it.
- Sasami-san@Ganbaranai – I. don’t. like.
- Chihayafuru 2 – Cards! Best show of winter 2013 that I’m watching.
- Hetalia: The Beautiful World – Unfortunately no English-subbed eps are available.
Currently my obsession is with Zetsuen no Tempest. I watched the first episode on Saturday, and by Sunday I managed to catch up to episode 16. I ended up doing nothing else of significance over the weekend. I got hooked so fast it was almost unbelievable. Thinking back it started when I noticed that Kylee was doing the OP and I decided to take a look at the series to determine if it was any good. And the rest was history. Once in a while I look back on past anime, and I’m glad I found this one before it went really out of my radar for good. Maybe the preview for this show sounded generic, that’s why I ignored it. I just hope the ending is good.
Moving on from tempests, let me talk about the other ‘card’. I’m talking about Orson Scott Card, and his Ender’s Game series. I got myself a Kindle recently and I have been on a reading spree ever since. There were some nights I didn’t even turn on my computer to watch anime or whatever, and just read until it was bedtime. This further contributed to my neglect of the top 2012 anime post. I’ve finished up 4 books in this series, and I might re-read Ender’s Game soon. And I hope the movie doesn’t suck.
That’s all for now. Ja! 🙂
