Back to the anime life, for now

Hello there! I’m back!

…for a while at least.

Unbelievable, it’s been 2 years since I posted anything! So what have I been up to? Mostly real life activities, delving into other hobbies. Though what I mostly have to show for it are a backlog of kits, undisplayed figures, scarcely used drawing materials, and loads of books.

But why did I stop blogging?

Mostly because a lot of the anime showing in 2016 was uninteresting to me. Macross Delta was a bit of a letdown. On the the other hand, Yuri!!! on Ice and March Comes in like a Lion were both good, but not enough for me to blog about it. I think I finished only 8 shows from 2016 and there really was nothing for me to write about…(The indicator that it was a really bad year–as I used to watch more than 10 shows a year). So I forgot about catching up with the new anime. With my interests turning toward physical/RL things I was also very close to shutting down this blog.

Fortunately in the 2nd half of 2018 I started exploring new anime again. I think this was due to a stressful stretch in RL (which started in June). I noticed Piano no Mori had gotten a series, so I decided to give it a watch. I liked the movie so the TV series must be good, right? However the CG of the anime was such a disappointment, and over-all the execution felt average. I had to wash the bad taste off with a rewatch of the live-action Nodame Cantabile–still very good after all these years. Along the way I researched on what anime was popular, which led me to Boku no Hero Academia and Golden Kamuy. I also tried looking for ‘light’ anime fare, and finding Hinamatsuri opened the floodgates to more anime.

So will this mean more blogging? I don’t think so, I’m trying to develop skills that can enrich my life (if it adds to my income the better). But this ‘anime-watching’ revival proves that stress drives me back to anime lol. I will probably be able to post some more before the year ends, or early next year. For now, I’m back to the anime life! 😀

Macross Delta Love Chart

OK, while we’re waiting for the newest episode, let me share something found on Reddit.  And for those who don’t go there here is a funny take on the love triangles so far.

Let me note that I did not do this, and credit goes to the guy who did this.  I’m just sharing here!  🙂

As for me I’m on Team Mirage, but Freyja is also not as annoying as Ranka was in Macross Frontier (I was on Team Sheryl).  I think wherever the triangle goes I’m OK with it, but I do prefer Hayate x Mirage.  The outcome depends on what Macross overlord Shoji Kawamori will do (oh how will he troll us this time???).

Anyway, ever since Macross Delta started most of my thoughts have been about mecha lol.  And it has sort of revived my interest to blog.  Currently I am not watching anything new aside from Macross Delta.  But I might restart on other stuff as I get out of this weird funk I’m in right now.  Ja!

Macross Delta 09: That other triangle

Since subs aren’t out yet at the moment, I’m having fun with the ‘mess’ that Messer is in. These are the 3 highlights I got from episode 9…Hahaha

Triangle??!!!

Which means the ‘normal’ triangles are still not in full swing right now.  It’s getting boring on that front.  So I had to make up another triangle  😛

Even if the Jyu Oh Sei captioning experience was fun I won’t be blogging every episode.  But I’ll be posting every now and then in the future.  Delta has brought me back to the anime blogging world and I am enjoying the series so far.  But for now I need to get some sleep  😀

[Brief Impressions] Macross Delta: Battlefield Prologue

Happy New Year everyone!  Let’s greet 2016 with a brand new Macross series post!  😀

This series is just good news, as I was just losing interest in the anime showing nowadays.  Let me just put out first the things I didn’t like:

  • The 3d stuff wasn’t that good
  • Freyja Wion just reminds me of Ranka Lee too much
  • those magical-girl like transformation sequences make my eyes roll.

As for an all-girl idol group, I am willing to give it a chance.  I am not a fan of those girl groups, but I am curious how this will be handled in Macross Delta.  My only worry is that there are too many characters.  As for the enemy, there’s still much to learn about them.  I’m holding off comment for now.

I also like how the girls of Walkure are able to protect other people and themselves.  Singing and working together with the Valkerie fighters made it more realistic.  (I thought Basara’s style in Macross 7 was really silly.)

Surprisingly, the music wasn’t that bad.  Most Macross music has been good (if not outright excellent), and sets a very high bar.  By the end of the episode the music sounded catchy.  Although I hope that 1) they would also have ‘slow’, emo songs too, 2) the singers perform great live (yes I am very spoiled by May’n and Nakajima performances).

As for the episode over-all, I guess I have been spoiled by the Macross Frontier Deculture edition.  The animation was crisper on the Macross Frontier offering.  I can only hope that Macross Delta will improve in the succeeding episodes.

That ends my first impressions for Macross Delta.  And now the long wait for spring 2016 begins!
